Today, Hillsboro is a small town popular for gold prospectors. You can still find some gold in the surrounding hills. Another example of gold prospecting in New Mexico is Los Cerrillos. Here gold was first discovered in the Cerrillos in 1879 leading to the establishment of Los Cerrillos.
